Author Guidelines

Dear Authors!

We would like to draw your attention to the fact that the journal "Toxicological Review" is included in the recommended list of the Higher Attestation Commission of leading peer-reviewed scientific journals and publications in which significant results of dissertations for the degree of doctor and candidate of sciences should be published, as well as in international information systems and databases, to meet the requirements of which the authors must strictly follow the following rules:

1. These rules have been developed on the basis of recommendations of the Higher Attestation Commission of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), the Enhancing the Quality and Transparency of Health Research Network (EQUATOR), the Association of Science Editors and Publishers (ASEP).

2. Before submitting an article to the editorial board of the journal, please read carefully the following information:

— The thematic focus and headings of the journal, indicated in the "Information about the journal" section on the website.

— The Regulation on the principles of editorial ethics of the journal. The journal adheres to the principles of editorial ethics of The Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

By submitting the article, the authors confirm that they agree with the following provisions and principles.

3. The accompanying documents.

The accompanying documents include:

— a cover letter about the submission of the article for publication (link to the form). The letter must be signed by all the authors indicated in the manuscript, as well as have a visa from the heads of the institutions (or departments) where the work was carried out;

— a license agreement granting the right to use an article in the scientific journal "Toxicological Review" (link to the form). The agreement must be signed by one author on behalf of the team of authors;

— a copy of the ethics committee's opinion on the study (if necessary). If the article presents the results of clinical trials involving humans or animals as subjects, the ethical committee's opinion is mandatory.

4. Authorship.

The authors of the article may be persons who have made a significant contribution to the work, its revision or editing, final approval for publication, as well as those responsible for the integrity of all parts of the manuscript. Persons who performed another role in the preparation of the article (statisticians, language specialists, technical staff, etc.) can be indicated in the section “Acknowledgements” in Russian and English.

It is necessary to indicate the shared contribution of the authors in writing the article (in Russian and English). Thus, it is necessary to indicate which of the stages of the creation of the article each of its authors participated in: the concept and design of the study, the collection and processing of material, statistical data processing, writing the text, editing, approval of the final version of the article, responsibility for the integrity of all parts of the article.

Family authorship is unacceptable.

The number of authors of the article should be reasonable: in original articles without restrictions, in review articles — 3-4 authors. Authors must provide links to their profile on https://orcid.org (the profile must be fully completed in English, including links to publications). More information about the authorship can be found on the website of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors at the link.

5. Funding.

If the research and/or the preparation of the article had financial support, it is necessary to indicate the source of funding. If there was no financial support, you need to indicate its absence. This information should be provided in Russian and English after abstract in the section "Funding/Acknowledgment". If the authors have used the services of editorial/brokerage agencies, you should thank them for their ethical participation in the same section. See paragraph 9 of the Sarajevo Declaration https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5209927/pdf/CroatMedJ_57_0527.pdf

6. Conflict of interests.

The authors undertake to report any existing or potential conflicts of interest. A conflict of interest can be considered any situation that can affect the author of a manuscript and lead to concealment, distortion of data, or change their interpretation. The existence of a conflict of interest among one or more authors is not a reason for refusing to publish an article. If there are sponsors, the authors should indicate their role in determining the structure of the study, collecting, analyzing and interpreting data, as well as deciding whether to publish the results. Information about conflicts of interest or their absence should be provided in the section "Conflict of interest" in Russian and English after the "Funding/Acknowledgments" section. If there is no conflict of interest, please indicate: The authors declare the absence of obvious and potential conflicts of interest in connection with the publication of this article. More information about the definition of conflicts of interest can be found at the link.

7. Plagiarism and secondary publications.

The use of unfair textual borrowing, the borrowing of ideas, graphic or tabular elements, and the appropriation of research results that do not belong to the authors of the submitted manuscript is unethical and unacceptable.

References to the results of other authors' work should be accompanied by references to primary sources, which should be included in the list of references. The citation of a previously published text should be enclosed in quotation marks indicating the original source.

If plagiarism is found in an already published manuscript, the article is subject to retraction (withdrawal).

You can check the article for originality using the services https://www.antiplagiat.ru (for Russian-language texts) and http://www.plagiarism.org (for English-language texts). The editorial board checks the submitted manuscripts for plagiarism through the Anti-Plagiarism system (https://www.antiplagiat.ru). A textual similarity of more than 20% is considered unacceptable. Works published in other journals or sent to other publications should not be sent to the editorial office.

8. Editing.

The editors reserve the right to shorten and edit submitted articles. The date of receipt of the article is considered to be the time of receipt of the final (revised) version of the article if it is finalized by the authors after reviewing.

9. Sending the manuscripts.

Manuscripts, as well as accompanying documents, can be submitted to the editorial office in one of the following ways:

— uploading files with the text of the article, accompanying documents and additional materials to the journal's website via the online form;

— by e-mail to the editorial office — legonkovavalentina@yandex.ru

The text of the article is submitted in Microsoft Word format, and the accompanying documents with the original signatures are in the form of scanned copies in *.pdf or *.jpg format.

If the manuscript is accepted for publication, the signed license agreement granting the right to use the article in the scientific journal "Toxicological Review" must also be sent in printed format in 2 copies to the editorial office's postal address: 141014, Moscow region, Mytishchi district, Mytishchi, Semashko str., 2. 10.5 Plan for constructing the text of the original articles

The structure of the original articles should correspond to the IMRAD format (Introduction, Methods, Results and Discussion). The plan for constructing the text of original articles should be as follows: Introduction; Materials and methods; Results; Discussion; Conclusion, References, captions if there are figures, Information about the authors in Russian and English.

The Introduction section provides a brief overview of relevant data, a critical assessment of the literature relevant to the problem under consideration, a justification for the novelty and significance of the study on a global scale (not only in terms of a given city or country), identifies unresolved issues and sets clearly formulated goals and objectives explaining further research. Each keyword of the article should be reflected in the introduction. It is recommended to avoid lengthy analyses and long historical digressions.

The Materials and methods section should contain information on where and when the study was conducted; criteria for the inclusion and exclusion of patients, experimental animals; description of the research method (cohort, prospective, retrospective, series of observations). When submitting experimental works, the "Rules for carrying out work using experimental animals" should be followed. In addition to the species, gender and number of animals used, the authors must indicate the methods of anesthesia and methods of killing animals used during painful procedures.

It is strongly recommended to follow the Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials, which can be found at the link http://www.consort-statement.org

Methods published earlier should be accompanied by references. The author describes only changes related to the topic.

In works presenting the results of scientific research, modern methods of statistical data processing should be used, which should be described in the Materials and methods section.

Required in statistical analysis: calculation of the sample size based on statistical power; determination of the normality of the Kolmogorov-Smirnov or Shapiro-Wilk distribution; detailed presentation of models of logistic or linear regression analysis (determinants and covariants); statistical package and version.

It is not allowed to present the results and discussions in one section.

In the Results section, the data should be clear and concise, it should be presented in absolute numbers and as a percentage. The 95% confidence interval (95 CI%) and the confidence level of the differences should be indicated. Error bars are required at all points of experimental and calculated data, with an explanation in the text of how these errors were established.

The Discussion section provides a convincing explanation of the results and shows their significance. In the case of computational research, the results obtained should be compared with information from published experimental papers, if possible. It is necessary to indicate whether the numerical values given are primary or derived, the limits of accuracy, reliability, confidence intervals, estimates, recommendations, accepted or rejected hypotheses discussed in the article. A paragraph with the limitations of the study is included in the Discussion. The limitations of the study are a clear limitation of the possibilities of using the chosen research methods, the characteristics of the research objects, the unambiguity of the context, and the boundaries of the experimental subject under consideration. In addition to the criterion of subject limits, important guidelines and limitations of scientific research also include ethical and socio-cultural prohibitions.

10.6 Design of reviews

The review article should be indicated by the authors as a literature review after the title of the article. It is desirable that the reviews comply with international recommendations on systematic literature search methods and standards. Abstracts of review articles should contain information about literature search methods in Scopus, Web of Science, MedLine, The Cochrane Library, EMBASE, Global Health, CyberLeninka, RSCI, and others. The keywords of review articles should include the word "review".

The words "systematic review" should be included in the title of the systematic review. Detailed information on the compilation of reviews can be found in the PRISMA guidelines (Recommended Reporting Elements for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis), available at the link.

10.7 Standards

All terms and definitions must be scientifically reliable, and their spelling (both Russian and Latin) must correspond to the Encyclopedic Dictionary of Medical Terms (2001, 2nd edition edited by V.I. Pokrovsky, ed. "Medicine", http://www.twirpx.com/file/123175). Medicinal products should be listed only in international nonproprietary names, which are used first, then, if necessary, several trade names of drugs registered in Russia are listed (in accordance with the Klifar-Gosreestr information search system [State Register of Medicines]).

It is desirable that the writing of enzymes comply with the Enzyme Nomenclature standard (http://www.chem.qmul.ac.uk/iubmb/enzyme/)

It is desirable that inherited or familial diseases comply with the international classification of inherited conditions in humans ("Mendelian Inheritance in Man" [http://ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/Omim]).

The names of microorganisms should be verified in accordance with the publication "Medical Microbiology" (edited by V.I. Pokrovsky http://www.webmedinfo.ru/medicinskaya-mikrobiologiya-pozdeev-o-k-pokrovskij-v-i.html).

The full name of the authors mentioned in the text should correspond to the list of references.

The manuscript may be accompanied by a dictionary of terms (unclear, which may cause difficulties for the reader to understand). In addition to the generally accepted abbreviations of units of measurement, physical, chemical and mathematical quantities and terms (for example, DNA), abbreviations of phrases that are often repeated in the text are allowed. All letter designations and abbreviations entered by the author should be deciphered in the text at their first mention. Abbreviations of simple words are not allowed, even if they are often repeated. The doses of medicines and the units of measurement of physical quantities must be specified in the International System of Units. In the Russian-language text, a comma is used in decimal fractions: 0,35, in the English-language text and tables — a dot: 0.35.

10.8 Abstract

Abstract should contain only essential facts of the work. For original articles, abstract must have a structure. It should repeat the structure of the article and include an introduction, material and methods, results, limitations and conclusion. However, the subject, topic, and purpose of the work are indicated if they are not clear from the title of the article. It is advisable to describe the method or methodology of the work if they are new or interesting. The length of the text of the abstract should be strictly from 200 to 250 words. The abstract should be accompanied by several keywords or phrases that reflect the main topic of the article and facilitate the classification of work in the search bar. Keywords are separated by semicolons. Keywords in English should be taken from the Medline dictionary (MeSH, EMtree). It is recommended to transliterate the names of the authors in the same way as in previous publications, in their absence — in accordance with the passport or according to the BGN (Board of Geographic Names) system, see the website http://www.translit.ru. In English, the authors are indicated in the following format: John Y. Smith. For organizations, it is important that the officially accepted English version of the name is indicated.

10.9 Requirements for images

General questions. Each image is recorded in a separate file. Files with graphic images must have names (Ivanov.Fig.1).

A single system of letter designations and image scaling should be used.

The images in the text should be numbered sequentially.

The maximum size of the images is 180 mm wide and 230 mm high.

Fonts should be used in the image: Arial, Courier, Times New Roman, Symbol or similar fonts.

If possible, the inscriptions in the images should be replaced with numeric or alphabetic (Latin) symbols explained in the text of the article or in the captions to the images. The inscriptions on the images, which cannot be replaced by numeric or letter symbols, must be indicated in Russian and English (starting from a new line). References to images (and tables) are given in the text of the article.

Formats. Black and white line images: file format — TIFF (extension *.tiff), any program that supports this format (Adobe PhotoShop, Adobe Illustrator, etc.); mode — bitmap; resolution 600 dpl (Adobe Photoshop); it is possible to use LZW compression or another.

Black and white tonal drawings (grayscale), color tonal drawings (RGB, CMYK); file format — TIFF (extension*.tiff) 300 dpi resolution (Adobe Photoshop)

Vector graphics: An ai. extension created in Adobe Illustrator CS6.

If an electronic graphic image is created in a Microsoft Office application (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), then it should be presented in the appropriate format.

You should not send:

— files that are formatted for display on the screen (for example, GIF, BMP, PICT, WPG), as a rule, have a low resolution and a limited set of colors;

— very low resolution files;

— drawings published earlier. The editors reserve the right to check drawings for plagiarism through Google Images.

10.10 Captions to images and photos

The captions to images and photos are grouped together and indicated in Russian and English after the information about the authors. Each image should have a title. The captions to the graphs indicate the designations along the axes and units of measurement, and provide explanations for each curve. The captions to the microphotographs indicate the coloring method and magnification.

10.11 Design of tables

The table number should be indicated on the top right (if there are more than one table), and its name in Russian and English should be given below. The entire text of the tables should also be presented in Russian and English (starting from a new line). Abbreviations of words in tables are not allowed. All the numbers in the tables must match the numbers in the text. Tables can be given in the text without putting them on separate pages. Decimal places in tables are separated by a dot.

10.12 Mathematical equations

Mathematical equations should be presented as editable text, not as images. Variables should be indicated in italics. The equations should be numbered in order.

10.13 References

The journal uses the citation style in the Vancouver format. In the list of references, references are numbered not alphabetically, but as they are mentioned in the text.

It is advisable to cite from 20 to 30 sources in original articles, from 30 to 60 in literature reviews, and no more than 15 in other materials. References in the text of the article are indicated by Arabic numerals in square brackets.

It is necessary to make sure that all references given in the text are present in the list of references (and vice versa).

The list of references should primarily contain publications from the last 5-7 years, mainly articles from journals, links to highly cited sources, including from Scopus and the Web of Science. Links must be verifiable.

The authors of the cited sources in the list of references should be indicated in the same order as in the original source (if the publication has more than 6 authors, then after the 6th author it is necessary to put the abbreviation "... et al.").

It is unacceptable to shorten the title of an article and the name of a journal. The names of English-language journals should be given in accordance with the catalog of titles in the MedLine database. If the journal is not indexed in MedLine, its full name must be indicated.

Links to online sources must be reliable and long-lasting. The exact URL and the date when the link was available should be given.

In all cases where the cited material has a Digital Object Identifier (DOI), it must be indicated at the very end of the reference. The DOI should be checked on the website. https://search.crossref.org or https://www.citethisforme.com. To get the DOI, you need to enter the title of the article in English in the search box.

Regulatory documents (Orders, GOST standards, Medical and Sanitary Rules, Guidelines, Regulations, Resolutions, Sanitary and epidemiological Rules, Laws) should not be included in the list of references, they should be indicated in the form of footnotes.

Unpublished or withdrawn articles should not be referenced. Self-citation is not allowed, except when necessary (there are no more than 3-5 references in the literature review). It is not necessary to refer to dissertations, as well as abstracts of dissertations, if possible, it is more correct to refer to articles published based on dissertation research materials.

References are included in the English-language section of the article and, accordingly, should be presented not only in the original language, but also in the Latin alphabet (Roman alphabet). Therefore, the list of references should be drawn up in two versions: one in the original language ("List of literature") and a separate block contains the same list of literature in the Roman alphabet ("References").

If the article or other source is written in Latin (in English, German, Italian, etc.), they must be quoted in their original form:

Geyer H., Parr M.K., Koehler K., Mareck U., Schänzer W., Thevis M. Nutritional supplements cross-contaminated and faked with doping substances. J. Mass Spectr. 2008; 43: 892–902. https://doi.org/10.1002/jms.1452

If the article is not written in English, it is necessary to indicate the source language in parentheses, for example: (in German).

Nusca A., Bonadonna L. Sistemi di climatizzazione e rischi igienico sanitari. Ig Mod. 2002; 117: 167–77. (in Italian)

If an article or other source is written in Cyrillic (including Russian), Chinese, etc., other than Latin, you should include this source in the original language in the "Literature" list.

In "References", the title of an article, monograph, collection of articles, or conference must be translated into English, indicating the original language. The titles of the monographs should also be transliterated. The names of the authors and the name of the journal should be transliterated. Since there are various transliteration options for surnames, it is recommended to use data from www.elibrary.ru. The name of the source is shown in italics.

When referring to sources translated from English in References, it is necessary to refer to the original edition.
